Terms of Use

Simple terms for using the site and tool.

Effective date: 3 October 2026

Agreement

These Terms govern your use of Free Subtitle Generator at https://subtitlegenerator.co (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

The Service

The Service is a free online subtitle generator. It uses an AI speech-recognition model that runs in your browser to create subtitles and transcripts from files you select. It is free to use, requires no account and adds no watermark.

Your files and content

Your files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to us. You keep all rights to your media and to the subtitles you create. You confirm that you have the rights needed to transcribe, caption and publish the media you process, and you are responsible for respecting copyright and the privacy of people recorded in it.

Accuracy of AI subtitles

Subtitles are produced automatically and may contain errors, such as misheard words, wrong timing, missing speech or incorrect punctuation. Always review and edit them before publishing. Do not rely on the Service alone where errors could cause harm, for example in legal, medical or safety contexts or for formal accessibility compliance.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to break the law, infringe others’ rights, create unlawful or harmful content, disrupt the website or its hosting (including abusive automated requests), or copy and resell the website as your own.

Our intellectual property

The name, design, text and our own code of the website are protected by intellectual property laws. You may use the Service for personal and commercial purposes as intended, including publishing your own subtitled videos. These Terms give you no other rights to our materials.

Open-source components

The Service is built with open-source software and openly licensed AI models, each under its own license (for example MIT, Apache-2.0 and BSD). Those licenses apply to those components.

Third-party services

To work, your browser downloads AI model files from Hugging Face and software code from jsDelivr, and the site is hosted by Netlify. Those services have their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services or linked websites.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service working but do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or compatible with every browser or device. We may change or discontinue features. Subtitles you have already downloaded remain yours.

No warranty and limited liability

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for loss of data, content or profits, including errors in AI subtitles. Because the Service is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to 100 US dollars. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and your mandatory consumer rights are not affected.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, with courts in New Delhi having jurisdiction, except where the mandatory consumer laws of your country give you the right to use your local courts. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve any issue informally.

Changes and contact

We may update these Terms and will post the new version here with a new effective date. Continuing to use the Service means you accept the updated Terms. Questions? Use the contact page.
