Our mission
Captions should not be a luxury. Many people need them to follow a video, and many creators want them but do not want to pay a subscription or hand their recordings to a stranger’s server. Free Subtitle Generator exists to make good subtitles available to everyone.
How it is different
Almost every online subtitle tool uploads your file. Ours does not. Modern browsers are powerful enough to run speech recognition locally, so we ship the AI to you instead of asking for your video. That means no accounts, no queues and no watermarks.
What it runs on
The tool uses OpenAI’s open Whisper speech-recognition models, run in your browser with the open-source Transformers.js library. These components are released under open licenses. We are an independent project and are not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI or Hugging Face.
