- Your videos and audio never leave your device. Subtitles are created inside your browser. We never receive, see or store your files, transcripts or subtitles.
- No account. We do not ask for your name or email to use the tool.
- No cookies for tracking or advertising, and no analytics.
- If you contact us, we receive only what you choose to send.
- We do not sell personal data and we show no ads.
Who we are
Free Subtitle Generator is the website at https://subtitlegenerator.co. You can reach the operator through the contact page.
How the generator works
When you select a file, your browser reads its audio, and an AI speech-recognition model running in your browser turns the speech into text with timings. You edit and download the result. None of these steps sends your file, audio, transcript or subtitles to us or anyone else. You can verify this in your browser’s developer tools (Network tab).
What other services see
Model downloads. The first time you use a quality mode, your browser downloads the AI model files from Hugging Face. Their servers receive normal request data, such as your IP address and browser type. No media or transcript is sent. See huggingface.co/privacy.
Software library. The speech engine code is loaded from the jsDelivr content delivery network, which receives normal request data such as your IP address.
Hosting. The site is hosted by Netlify, which processes technical logs (IP address, time, requested page, browser type) to deliver and secure the site. See netlify.com/privacy.
Contact form
If you use the contact form, your name, email address and message are processed by Formspree, our form provider, and delivered to us. We use them only to read and reply to your message, and keep them as long as needed for that purpose. Please do not include sensitive information. See formspree.io privacy policy.
Data stored on your device
To work, the tool stores a small amount of data in your browser only. We cannot see it and it is never sent to us:
- theme (local storage): your light or dark choice.
- lang-banner-dismissed (local storage): remembers that you closed the language suggestion.
- Cache Storage: downloaded AI model files, so they are not downloaded again.
Clear this site’s data in your browser settings to delete all of it.
Cookies and analytics
We do not set cookies and we do not use analytics or advertising trackers. If that ever changes, we will update this policy first and ask for consent where the law requires it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act or US state laws), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to data portability. Because we hold almost no personal data, usually only a message you sent us, the easiest way to use these rights is to write to us through the contact page. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
The site is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
International transfers and security
Our service providers (Netlify, Formspree, Hugging Face, jsDelivr) may process technical data in several countries and rely on recognised safeguards. The site is served over HTTPS. Because your media is processed on your device, it is not exposed to risks on our side.
Changes
If we change how the site works in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and its effective date first.
